Parking in Bournemouth in 2026: higher charges, stricter fines
BCP Council raised parking charges from 16 March 2026, seafront car parks up six per cent, and trialled stricter fines in August. What visitors need to know.

Parking in Bournemouth got more expensive this year, and enforcement got tighter. Two changes matter if you are driving in.
The charges
Car parking charges at council-owned sites across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole rose from 16 March 2026 by an average of four per cent, with town-centre charges up two per cent and seafront parking up six per cent, Bournemouth One reported. The seafront car parks at Pier Approach and Bath Road sit at the top of the tariff scale in peak season, and a full summer day in either is one of the more expensive things you can do on a Bournemouth beach.
The fines
Separately, BCP Council ran a stricter parking penalties trial from 4 to 31 August 2026 on roads from Sandbanks to Southbourne, Hits Radio reported, targeting the verge and pavement parking that clogs the seafront roads on hot weekends. Whether it returns next summer is the council's call, but the direction is clear.
What to do about it
- Leave the car at the hotel. The Flexiestays hotels are on the West Cliff, within walking distance of the beach, the pier and the town centre, so a car parked once on arrival can stay parked. - Or do not bring one. Bournemouth is two hours from Waterloo by train and the station is a short taxi from the seafront; the getting here guide has the options, and most of what visitors come for is walkable.
- Studland and the ferry. If you are driving out to Studland or the Purbecks, the Sandbanks Ferry went cashless this year and now reads number plates, so the payment routine has changed too.
