Boscombe's Hawkwood Road regeneration is under way
Construction has begun on Boscombe's Hawkwood Road regeneration: a nine-hectare site, a new community centre and 68 council homes, phase one due in August 2027.
Boscombe's largest regeneration project in decades is now a building site. BCP Council announced that construction on the Hawkwood Road scheme has begun, with phase one focused on a new community centre and a pedestrian link between Christchurch Road and Hawkwood Road. Work started in June 2026 and completion of that first phase is due in August 2027.
The wider scheme turns a nine-hectare site into a new neighbourhood with homes, community space and local services. It brings 68 council-owned homes and space for a wellbeing and health centre, funded in part by £13.2m from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and £9.6m from Homes England towards the homes.
Why it matters
Boscombe is the part of Bournemouth that visitors underrate and locals argue about. It has the better surf beach, a pier, the Overstrand's cafés and a food scene that has quietly become one of the town's best, which we cover in the Boscombe food scene. The high street behind it has struggled for years. Hawkwood Road is the council's answer: new homes and a community building where empty land and car parks sat, a few minutes' walk from the sea.

The construction season
